Mel is a living legend in British Columbia, Canada, for his career in construction and his contribution to the welfare of underprivileged young people. He built two schools for handicapped children and a seniors’ home, and created murals in children’s hospitals, before eventually realizing his dream of creating a ranch where children with medical needs could come to enjoy the outdoors. (See the Zajac Ranch for Children under Projects). With his wife, Irene, Mel created a Foundation to raise funds for the children of British Columbia through the proceeds of the Zajac Golf Classic and private donations from friends and family members. Mel is motivated by a lifelong desire to be of service, and he remains active with plans to build another seniors’ home and expand the Zajac Ranch.
