Timothy Crickmay

Timothy considers himself to be somewhat of a polymath. He has a curiosity that is insatiable and knows a little bit about a lot of things.

Timothy is a native West Vancouverite. He completed two years of Arts at UBC with the intention of pursuing a life as a Marine Archaeologlist. As an infant, his mother told of his crawling down the beach and underwater along the sand heading out to sea. Summer life was spent in the idyllic Pacific waters off Qualicum on the East coast of Vancouver Island. He took up Scuba Diving at the age of 14 and his passion for things under the surface of the ocean was burgeoning.

Echoing the words of Robbie Burns, John Lennon's famous quote, “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans”, Timothy was called once again to help his father in the family business, which he had been involved with since the age of 12.

Things did not work out in that regard and so he began a career in marketing and sales that took him coast to coast in Canada and throughout Cascadia for many decades. Northern Rainforest roots are not easily forgotten and every landing at YVR was followed directly with shoes off, suit pants rolled up, and wading into the ocean waters in English Bay.

Ending his retail sales and marketing career at the millenium, Timothy took a year to recalibrate and investigate his other passion for the history of pre-Columbian Indigenous cultures. He travelled Canada, Continental US and Northern Mexico by auto and on foot pursuing his interests both in these cultures and in the origins of music in North America.

Home once more in West Vancouver, Timothy expanded on another interest by signing on with Capers and Whole Foods. He learned the fine art of cooking from both his parents and this led to his being somewhat of a foodie. Naturally this led to a new passion for organic foods, sustainable food production, environmetal issues, and yes, fish and oceans...back to square one.

Today Timothy still works in the food and wine industries with Starbucks and the LDB and for the last 15 years has worked as a kayak guide, instructor and marine interpretor in the waters of Howe Sound out of the Snug Cove operation of Bowen Island Sea Kayaking. He is involved as much as possible with Interpretation Canada, BC Chapter and the Rivershed Society of BC.

Fifteen years ago, Timothy became involved with Gobloc, a green start-up intent on replacing the concrete cinderblock with an organic green alternative. This association intertwines with Timothy's environmental interests regarding green building, energy alternatives, clean air, fresh water preservation, land conservation and preservation of fish and oceans...one more substantial girder in the bridge.

All things in this life are interlocking. Perhaps Chaos Theory is on the right track. Each small step in the green direction is not seen as industry would have it – regressive, but as the Spirit of Mother Earth would see it – progressive. Timothy nurtures his vision of bringing green housing, potable water and food co-ops to the communities of the First Nations in Canada giving them a foundation to begin to build a new life for their young people to thrive in.

Timothy is hoping that the Visioneers will prove to be a counterbalance to the 'Popular Conservatism' that seems rampant in todays world. In the meantime, he continues to work with and follow closely the organizations of Change:
